I've been pottering away (pun absolutely intended) in my little garden studio for a while now, but today feels like a proper milestone. My brand new Kilncare Ikon V46 top loading kiln has arrived, courtesy of the lovely people at The Pottery People — and I am absolutely beside myself with excitement.
There's something about having your own kiln that makes everything feel more real. This is my kiln, in my garden studio, and I feel like a proper grown-up potter at last!!
Why the Kilncare Ikon V46?
I did a lot of research before taking the plunge. The V46 is a brilliant mid-size top loader — big enough to fire a decent batch of pieces, but perfectly manageable for a solo studio like mine. The Kilncare Ikon range has a great reputation for reliability and even heat distribution, which matters enormously when you're firing glazed pieces and want consistent results every time.
What's Next?
Honestly? I can't wait to find out. I've got a queue of bisque-ready pieces just waiting for their first proper firing in the new kiln — some new planters, a few experimental vases, and a couple of sculptural bits I've been nervous to commit to glaze until now.
Thank you for following along on this little journey — it means the world. 🌿
